CKiW iRADIO 76‘s ”THE 5:15 SHOW” WITH RON YOUNGBLOOD ( a personal Christmas story)
Wednesday Dec 15, 2021
Wednesday Dec 15, 2021
Every year about this time, we take time out of doing drag racing "5:15" and try to find a story that best encapsulates a spirit of the Christmas Season. We have had some good ones, and this year's story continues that fine tradition. Ron Youngblood popped on our radar this year when he was working for London Township, Michigan. Bright, articulate and no-nonsense, Ron was our go-to person when we had questions about the Milan Dragway that was located in his township that only someone in his position could answer. We had no idea that he had a dark past. Incarcerated for years for a crime that should never taken place, Mr. Youngblood is that unique individual that saw the true horror of his action and fought daily to get away from that person and to become a new man. Teach others not to hate. Hard work and determination has helped Mr. Youngblood become a successful member in his community. He is also father of a newborn daughter. Listening to this story of a felon to beacon of what we all should be like restores faith in mankind. A perfect real life Christmas story...

Producers Note: Mr. Pappas is absolutely one of our favorite guests to have on. We have had him on twice and that was not enough time to even scratch the surface of all of the questions that we have for him. Incredibly engaging, a wealth of first hand knowledge and a light hearted speaking manor, Mr. Pappas is well worth your time to listen to. We look forward to having Joe with us again in the near future...

What a guest. One gets an unique feeling when you talk to folks that were part of history. It's awe, humbleness and intrigue at the same time. Knowing that the voice on the other end of the phone was on legendary drag racing team in the golden days of the sport, we had so many questions to ask. Today our guest is Joe Pappas of the world famous "Motown (Mopar) Missile" team and he answered questions with such great insights we didn't want him to stop. Topics on today's show include: the name change of the Motown/Mopar Missile and what Barry Gordy had to do with that, what it was like to be on a Mopar Factory team, bringing engines in Holiday Inn rooms (with fuel), why the Motown Missile team was different than the other Mopar Factory teams (Sox and Martin, Landy, Leal, etc), who built their chassis (hint-it wasn't in Michigan) , Mr. Hoover, hanging out with Dyno Don, Ronnie and Grumpy, that big per diem money, the Mopar "Test Program Services", reel to reel data recorder, corporate politics, Grumpy's tube chassis Vega, NHRA hates Hemis, the end of the Mopar Factory teams, going to see Don Carlton's shop again after years past and so much more. We will have Mr. Pappas back. Guaranteed...

It's that feeling that you get when you know that your favorite cousins are coming for a visit. In this case,it is Clyde Newsome and Levi Prater from the Sloan Onondaga Dragway that are coming in to pay us a visit. Topics discussed on today's show include: what's new at the track, the no box programs, the learning curve of running a dragway, looking back at the opening of the track just a few months ago, the massive fan support, the heavy hitters that are coming to the Sloan Onondaga Dragway (SOD), the new timing system, "Racin' Woody", perhaps VIP seating, the interaction with the fans, getting sponsors, overflow parking, the road in front of SOD is now fixed, building up the racing classes, multi-generation racers at SOD, the speakers are up, what is coming up next and so much more! Producer's Note: The passion and enthusiasm that Mr. Newsome and Mr. Prater have for SOD resonates through the speakers clearly. Their hometown genuineness is quite authentic and charismatic. As time progresses, we are quite confident that these gents will become not only more comfortable with their day-to-day duties, but become outstanding spokespersons for the Sloan Onondaga Dragway. They are well on their way now...

Although he wears many hats at The Ubly Dragway, when Nick Janowiak is up in the tower, he is running on 100% Nitro.
