He is a true living legend in the sport of drag racing. Today our guest is the renowned Dave Lyall who has more stories about drag racing than there are gains of sand. Yet each one is more engaging than the last. Today's show (in what will become a multi-part series) focuses more on how Mr. Lyall got his start on drag racing, the "East Side", Gratiot Avenue street racing scene that he was a big part of, racing on Woodward, his car club, how Motor City Dragway came together (and it's exact location), that Starliner race on 16 Mile Road, how he learned to fabricate, his brother racing with him, mentoring other young adults to get involved in the sport, Bob Ford, M-97 junk yard, working for Ford, the Holbrook family, those Shadowood guys, that $75 ticket, is that intake legal?, Motor City Speedway, his dad and that '55 Ford, working at the Gulf gas station, changing that rear tire on the '55 all the time, racing a Hudson Hornet and so much more! (Producers note: Mr. Lyall has been involved in some form of racing since the 1950's . He has so many stories and so much history in the sport that we simply could not fit it all in one hour. Mr. Lyall has agreed to come back on and talk about his Pro Stock days, his 5.0 "Stormin' Norman" days and so much more. The man who gets the folks together and keeps them up to date is William Alexander of the Michigan Snowmobile Asphalt Drag Racers Association. Steve Timoszyk runs the Detroit Tiger Funny Car, is the promoter for the nostalgia races at the Milan Dragway and is a senior member of the Timoszyk Racing Syndicate that has friends and family involved in all sorts of areas in drag racing. Many drag racing fans look back at the 70's & 80's as the golden era for Pro Stock and have a special place in their hearts for them. Mike Ruth and his compatriots are doing all they can to preserve that time in racing with their cars in the Midwest Nostalgia Pro Stock Association (ed. note-are two groups that call themselves "Midwest Nostalgia Pro Stock Association"- Mr. Ruth's is the one from the one that slogan is "Paying Tribute to the Legends").
